We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit rescue. We have many Lhasa Apsos that are currently in our Rescue Network and that need loving, responsible homes. The American Lhasa Club Rescue Network is a group of volunteers that work within the The American Lhasa Apso Club Guidelines to find loving, responsible homes for Lhasas that for a myriad of reasons are homeless.

Virtual Adoptions
In Memory of Munchkin who crossed the Rainbow Bridge 9-06 at almost 21 years old. Munchkin was our first Virtual Adoptee and lives on as our poster Lhasa.
Some of the Lhasas that we take into rescue end up as “Forever Fosters” because of long-term health issues, personality disorders, or even age ... please click Virtual Adoption to find out how you can help.

URGENT: DONATIONS NEEDED
Donations can be made via PayPal. Because of the number of dogs we are receiving into our rescue, we do not have any foster homes available. Those individuals needing to surrender their Lhasas are ask to fill in our surrender documents and send them to your regional coordinators. You will need to keep your Lhasa until a qualified home can be located. We will make every effort to help find a home as quickly as possible.

Adoption through Rescue requires an adoption Application, Contract, Liability waiver and a tiered adoption fee. The tiered adoption fee is based on several  factors, including, but not limited to, age of the dog and the region it is located in. Applicants will be advised by the Region or State coordinator that is handling the dog, as to the adoption fee. Vetting expenses in various regions vary and are integrated into the adoption fee to cover our costs. Fees may seem high but don't even begin to cover our expenses to get our dogs ready for adoption. Our coordinators are all volunteers  and receive no reimbursement for care, transporting or feeding of the dogs in their care, nor for any administrative expenses. ALAC RESCUE is able to perform rescue services ONLY  because of fees and donations, we have no funding source other than donations and fundraising activities! These donations are used for veterinary expenses such as spay/neuters, shots, critical medical attention, emergency boarding, heartworm testing/preventative/treatment and training to name just some of the services associated with rescue. All ALAC Rescue dogs will be spayed or neutered prior to adoption and will be up-to-date on shots. We try to ensure that the dogs are healthy prior to placement, although most dogs come to us without a vet history.

We do have a guarantee that any dog placed by ALAC Rescue will be taken back into rescue if an adoption does not work out. These dogs will be placed back into the system to be re-homed and will not be euthanized as some shelters do when a dog is returned. * Not all states have an active rescue volunteer. Our network tries very hard to cover these areas within our own membership and in conjunction with other rescues. Rescue will work to try to find Lhasas within an easy transport to reach applicants; we try not to transport dogs across the states if a closer home can be located. We also keep in contact with shelters throughout the United States and Canada and can notify applicants of possible Lhasas needing adoption through these shelters.

Helpful Tips

   To ADOPT A DOG:

Go to our Adoption Procedure's page [under the Adoption Info tab on the menu], be sure to carefully follow the instructions. If there is a specific Lhasa that you are interested in, please annotate the name and state or region where the dog is located. If there is specific attibutes that you are looking for in a Lhasa, please list them. But by all means keep in contact with the ALAC Representative that you are working with on the adoption.

   To RE-HOME A DOG:

Please contact (1) the State Representative listed for your particular state or (2) the Regional Representative listed for your region. To do this, go to the List of ALL Representatives [under the Regional Representatives tab], and locate the representative closest to you by going down the page and see if there is a representative for your state. If there isn't contact the representative closest to your location.

We highly recommend that individuals wanting to rehome their dogs fill out the surrender documents, click the Surrender Document tab in the menu, and mail them to the closest ALAC Rescue Representative. You will need to make initial contact with the representative listed on our site to obtain the proper mailing address of the volunteer that will be working closely with you. Your dog will start generating interest on our site and Petfinder immediately, lessening the time required to place them in a new home. Dogs are required to be neutered/spayed and all required paperwork must be completed before they are posted to our site. The time it takes to find a new home for a dog depends on the age and health of a dog, the number of Lhasas available for adoption in a given area, and time of the year they are surrendered.

*Please be aware that we are not always able to take a Lhasa in to our rescue foster program when notified at the last moment. Often our foster homes are filled with dogs, some that are in need of rehabilitation. Without a foster home many of the most needy Lhasas run the risk of being euthanized immediately. Our representatives prioritize the dogs coming into foster care. It depends on the number of dogs we currently are fostering and the availability of foster homes in your area. We are, however, always able to immediately list dogs on our website that need homes, if they are neutered or spayed.

We are in constant need of FOSTER HOMES as well as VOLUNTEERS to drive dogs to the vet or make housechecks. STATES where we particularly need assistance are: AL, AR, AZ, CO, DE, FL, GA, ID, IA, KS, KY, LA, MA, ME, MI, MN, MO, MS, ND, NJ, NM, NV, NY, NC, OH, OK, OR, PA, RI, SC, TN, UT, VA, VT, WV, WI, WY. PLEASE consider getting involved with the rescue effort!

Contact your state or regional rep and include your complete name, city and state how you can help ALAC Rescue. Include any and all experience you have with the breed and dogs in general. We especially need people who have experience with Lhasas. All our volunteers are thouroughly screened. All individuals wishing to apply to volunteer must fill in the same paperwork that we use to screen applicants for adoption.
